Community Involvement

We promote social responsibility, encourage active participation and embrace positive change. We understand that our involvement will make a lasting difference that will help to ensure the long-term vitality of our community and its members. Northwestern Mutual in Cedar Rapids encourages active participation through personal involvement, office-wide events, and sponsorships of community organizations throughout Northeast Iowa.

WE ARE IMPACTING 018

Within the Northwestern Mutual Network Office 018, the Managing Partner, Managing Directors, Reps and Staff unite together to volunteer and raise funds, hoping to make an impact on the funding and treatment of childhood cancer. Ultimately improving the lives of children and families through funding research and family support organizations.

Over the past years, Impacting 018 has been dedicated to the needs of sick children and their families. By donating to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and preparing lunch every month at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois, we are committed to the fight and ready to do more!

Check out these stats:

  • Approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday.1
  • Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the United States.2
  • More than 95% of childhood cancer survivors will have a significant health related issue by the time they are 45 years of age3; these health related issues are side-effects of either the cancer or more commonly, the result of its treatment.
  • Only 4% of National Cancer Institute (NCI) budget is dedicated to childhood cancers.

There is definitely more work to do, and Impacting 018 is ready to help.

The plan:

  • Each member of the Impacting 018 team will make a personal donation or volunteer toward the goal. Almost $30,000 has already been committed by the Managing Partner, Managing Directors, Reps, and staff for 2017. YAY TEAM!
  • Outside of the internal fundraising we will be organizing events, small and large, that will be held throughout the year by the supporting district offices.
  • Gain additional support and lasting relationships through partnerships with pediatric cancer organizations like Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Beat Cancer Today and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois.

A great plan, right? So, let’s do this! Join Impacting 018 today!

Kiss My Ace Volleyball Tournament

Northwestern Mutual Reps, Staff, and Interns, along side volleyball lovers and childhood cancer fighters gathered June 10, 2017 to compete in the Kiss My Ace Volleyball Tournament. The fundraiser was a great success! Not only did the event raise almost $2,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and Beat Cancer Today but we all had great fun in the sun and sand.

Plans are already in the works for Kiss My Ace Volleyball Tournament 2018!

Partners in the Fight

New Year’s Day, during the Iowa vs Michigan basketball game, the Northwestern Mutual offices that serve our communities made a $10,000 commitment to Beat Cancer Today for 2017. This organization was formed by families whose children have been diagnosed with childhood cancer. Beat Cancer Today’s mission is to create awareness of childhood cancers and to provide financial support for childhood cancer research, and for patient and family support programs. This is just the beginning of our partnership and funds we will raise to beat childhood cancer!

Iowa Dance Marathon

This year’s Intern Team Community Service Award recipient, the Zach network office team in Coralville, Iowa, led by Adam Corpstein, helped raise more than $2 million to support childhood cancer research through University of Iowa Dance Marathon.
